Mesa Verde Locals Deal: Far View Lodge for $99 a Night
Updated: 3 days ago
If you live in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, or Arizona, you can sleep inside Mesa Verde National Park right now for $99 a night. Far View Lodge is running a Locals Offer through October 18, 2026, and that also happens to be the last night of the lodge's season. So this is a two-week window, and I am telling you about it now so you actually have time to use it. It was voted a runner-up for USA Today's Best National Park Lodging.
I'm not going to lie to you and act like I've stayed there when I haven't. But I will say I'm writing this blog because I've always wanted to stay there and had no idea they run this sale. I've gotten a drink and sat out on the Terrace back in 2024, but wasn't fortunate enough to have a meal at the Metate Room that time.
While I won't be able to fit in a last minute trip to the Four Corners area this fall, this sale and trip will be added for next year and I'll be making my 3rd visit to Mesa Verde, because literally there is too much to explore in one or two visits.

How to book the Far View Lodge locals rate
The code does the work for you. Use the Far View Lodge booking page with the LOCAL code already applied, pick your dates, and the locals rate should load. If you want to talk to a person, the reservation line is 1-800-449-2288.
A deposit for the first night plus taxes and surcharges is due when you book.
Check-in is 4:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM.
Bring your proof of residency to the front desk. A Colorado driver's license covers it for most of us.
Everything inside the park is cash free, so plan on a card.
The $99 locals rate works on both room types, the Kiva rooms and the Kiva Deluxe View rooms, so you can grab a Deluxe View room for the same price!
What staying at Far View Lodge is actually like
Far View Lodge is the only lodging inside Mesa Verde National Park. It sits 15 miles past the park entrance, about a 30 minute drive up the park road, and every room has a private balcony looking south over the mesa toward New Mexico and Arizona.
There are 150 rooms split into two types, Kiva rooms and Kiva Deluxe View rooms. There are no TVs in the rooms and no cell service, which the park service describes as part of the point. Dinner is at the Metate Room inside the lodge, and there is a lounge if you want a drink after the sun goes down (the one I mentioned having a drink and enjoying the views at above).
If you plan to sit out on the balcony after dark, pack a headlamp. There is no light pollution up there and you will want your hands free for the walk back from dinner.

Mesa Verde and the 2023 ring of fire eclipse
Those dark skies are a big part of why Mesa Verde was one of the places to be for the annular solar eclipse on October 14, 2023. The park sat in the path of annularity, and it partnered with NASA for the day, with NASA scientists out at the viewing spots. Viewing was set up all over the park, including the Far View parking lot, right next to the lodge, plus the Chapin Mesa Museum, Morefield Campground, and the Cliff Palace and Balcony House parking lots.
I was there for it. The partial eclipse started around 9:11 in the morning, and at about 10:33 the moon slid into place and left a ring of sun for a little over three minutes.

So when I say the balcony at Far View is worth sitting on after dark, I mean it. This is a park that takes its sky seriously.
What is still open at Mesa Verde in October 2026
The lodge closes October 18, but the rest of the park keeps going a few days past that. Here is where things stand for the rest of the 2026 season, straight from the park service.
Cliff dwelling tours: running through October 21
Wetherill Mesa Road: open through October 21. The gate opens at 8:30 am and the last entry is 2:00 pm.
Mesa Verde Museum: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm daily through October 21, then 10:00 am to 3:00 pm starting October 22
Entrance fee: $30 per private vehicle through October 22, then $20 starting October 23. Both are good for seven days. The park does not take cash at the gate.

Book a cliff dwelling tour for the same trip
The $99 room is the easy part. The ranger guided cliff dwelling tours are what fill up, so lock in your tour around your lodge dates. Tickets open on recreation.gov 14 days in advance at 8:00 am Mountain time, or you can call 1-877-444-6777. Cancellation spots pop up on recreation.gov as late as two hours before a tour, so keep checking if your day looks sold out.
The ticketed tours include Cliff Palace, Balcony House, Long House, Square Tower House, Mug House, and Oak Tree House. Step House is the one cliff dwelling that does not need a reservation, which makes it a good fallback for the day you check in.
If you can't score a ticket, you can always opt to do the self guided scenic tour available on the NPS App.
For tour day I carry my Osprey Tempest 22L with water, snacks, and a layer, since you are out on the mesa for a good part of the day.
If Far View Lodge is booked up
Two weeks left in the season means some nights will sell out. If yours does, Morefield Campground is four miles inside the park entrance with tent and RV sites. For a hotel, the towns of Mancos and Cortez sit near the park entrance, and you can search hotels in Mancos and Cortez on Booking.com. You will not get the balcony view, but you will be close enough to make the morning tour.
A Mesa Verde book to read before you go
I picked up Mesa Verde Victim by Scott Graham at a coffee shop in Durango, and I read it start to finish. They also sell the entire series at Maria's Bookshop. It is a mystery from Torrey House Press, published in 2020 and part of Graham's National Park Mystery series. Archaeologist Chuck Bender and his brother-in-law end up facing murder charges after a colleague's body turns up in Chuck's backyard, and clearing their names pulls them into a secretive dig near Mesa Verde and a legend about Ancestral Puebloan canopic jars.

If you are staying at Far View with no TV and no cell service, a paperback set in the same park is the right thing to have on the balcony.
Getting to Mesa Verde
If you are flying in, Denver is one of the Frontier hubs I mapped to Mesa Verde in my Frontier GoWild Pass national parks guide. And if you want to turn this into a bigger western Colorado and Utah loop, my Dinosaur National Monument camping guide and Arches National Park guide are good places to start.
